Prom night should be special, even if it’s held in your bedroom – by yourself or with a couple of your best friends. So take the extra time to decorate your background and plan for a fabulous looking virtual prom. Here’s a few pointers to consider:
1. Pick a theme for prom night
If your school has a designated prom theme, then decorate your background with that theme in mind. The best backgrounds are going to have one or two main colors and few items to set the tone. You are the highlight of the evening, not a fun-filled background. Create a solid background with paint, wrapping paper or a fringe curtain. Then establish a frame with balloons, streamers, flowers, stars or other magnificent decorations.
2. Select a color
Choose a color for your background that contrasts your prom dress. You don’t want to blend into the background, you want to stand out. Blue looks beautiful against silver or gold, which creates a classic background. A gold dress looks awesome in front of red, which is a trending color this prom season. Rose Gold, Blush or Pastel colors are incredible in front of a dark background such as navy or hunter green.
3. Focus on your top
The top of your dress is going to be the focal point of your dress. Your skirt is important, but it won’t show as much in front of the camera – so really find a top that shines.
4. Create ambient lighting
Set the mood with decorative lighting. A string of white Christmas lights is an obvious option, but consider candles as well. If you’re using real candles, then place them away from your dance area.
5. Set a table
Have a variety of desserts that are not very messy available to munch on throughout the night. Set out candy dishes with candy that match your color theme. Add decorative tiered plates with mini cupcakes, cookies or brownies. Include various snacks so you aren’t on a sugar rush all evening.
6. Add fabulous florals
A wrist or lapel corsage is a tradition worth keeping. This year, rather than having just a corsage, select your favorite blooms and arrange them in various vases with differing heights around your room. They can be a part of your background, a centerpiece for your snack table or just a fragrant detail for the evening.
7. Save a dance for prom night
Make sure you save a dance for your dad. It’s a special treat to have your father around for this sweet occasion. Your dad has provided so much for you throughout the years. He cares for you tremendously and has taught you a ton. Show him your appreciation for all he’s done and all he is. Include your mom and siblings too if you want!
There are so many things about this year that have been a letdown. Don’t add prom night to your list. With a little extra effort, you can have a glamorous and fun evening to remember.
